Nice Ride

    We documented the opening of Nice Ride last Thursday, June 10, 2010. Basically, it is an effort to save energy and prevent pollution by having up to 1,000 bikes acting as taxi cabs around the downtown, uptown, and U of M areas. For the opening day, dozens of people rode the bikes down Nicollet Avenue from the Minneapolis Central Library to Peavey Plaza, where Mayor R.T. Rybak spoke to the public. Below is a photograph of the bikers crossing the intersection of Nicollet and 4th, shot from the sixth floor of a parking garage.

City Hall

    I have always been fascinated by the outside of the Minneapolis City Hall; it looks like a castle amongst all the other buildings. I had passed the city hall hundreds of times on the light rail and was always curious what it looked like on the inside. Sure enough, we had an assignment where we had to document the architecture and design work of the building. The place is quite fascinating, a little on the eerie side in some areas too. Here are some of my favorite photos from that day.

    This is the inside of the main conference room. The windows are gelled yellow to help compensate for color balance while filming meetings.

     I would like to thank the owner, Doug Klemenhagen, for being so kind and allowing me to invade his space with my photo equipment. I had a lot of fun on this shoot. The people were all very nice. Get In Gear

    This last Saturday, April 24, Get In Gear celebrated their 33rd year of the 10k, 5k, 2k, and half marathon races held at Minnehaha Park. This event holds the largest 10k in Minnesota and is among the top 15 of the country. My class and I were to document the races for our assignment in Editorial. It rained the whole time we were there. I had my rain coat, a garbage bag around my backpack, and a Cub Foods bag around my camera; luckily my friend had an extra camera bag for me to use otherwise my camera would have been screwed. I learned a lesson and finally bought a legitimate camera bag with a rain cover after ruining a book and some papers from moisture. I had fun though; it was a good experience even though it's not my style of shooting. This is my favorite photo I came up with... I find it kind of funny.

Flour Me Gold

    This is actually an old photograph, but it remains a personal favorite of mine. This was shot in the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater about four quarters ago. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend checking it out. The design and layout of the building is worth a visit on its own and they present some of the greatest plays, which I have yet to experience myself.
